David MacElroy, a lab technician in San
Francisco, is a divorcee who is close with his gay son Justin and his
partner. In his journal he recounts the first-ever alien visitation
to earth and of how it affected him on a very personal level. He
describes the enigmatic visitors as inverted celery stalks that
inadvertently alter humanity in a positive way, but that also manage
to cause quite a stir while attempting to satisfy their own curiosity
about us. Earthling reactions run the gamut from celebratory to
fanaticism to terrified. The consequences of this first encounter
between aliens and humans are both awkward and humorous, yet result
in providing our race with the most precious gifts of all.
